Annual Volunteer Meeting - New Volunteers Welcome - Wednesday, March 19th downstairs in the Rutland Library at 6:30 p.m. Come learn about the horses, educational programs and volunteer opportunities.
Gala Wine Tasting - Sunday, March 30, from 3 to 6 pm. Treat yourself to an afternoon of elegance at the four-star Castle Restaurant on Route 9 in Leicester, MA. Barn Work Day - Saturday, April 5th, at the rescue barn. Come for a barn yard spring clean up. Bring tools for cleaning inside the barn and outside the barn. Shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, brush cutters, sponges, gloves, etc. The fun begins at 8 a.m. and we generally work until noon.
Equine Orientation Program - Saturday, April 12, from 10 am to noon. Whether you're young or old, come take our class to learn the basics of horse care. We've designed our course for those who will volunteer at BSER, are thinking of buying or adopting a horse, or who simply want to learn more about horses through hands-on experience. Please consider making a donation to support this program so we may continue our mission to end neglect.

Sponsored Trail Ride - Sunday, May 18. Have fun, get NEHT points, and raise funds for our deserving abused and neglected horses at our sixth annual sponsored trail ride. Start at our very own rescue barn, meet our horses, before setting out on beautiful trails over to the Barre Dam where you can relax at the snack stop before returning for a great barbecue and conversation with friends. Donations are welcome in all forms: Sponsor a horse or rider, support a BSER horse or 4-H rider - or just plain get sponsors for yourself, ride the gorgeous trails, and enjoy the postride barbecue.
To participate, simply raise at least $30 in sponsorships. If you raise $75 or more, you get a free T-shirt. And top fundraisers get much more. But no matter how much you raise, you'll go home with a gift - Everybody gets a prize. Registration starts at 9 am, the ride at 10 am. Choose from 3.5/12/16 mile rides. If it rains and you'd rather not ride, simply come and share in the barbecue. This is a great opportunity to meet some of our BSER horses and see firsthand how your funds support their physical, emotional, and mental health.

All-New Horsemanship Program! - Starting Sunday, June 1.True horsemanship starts long before your foot goes in the stirrup. As any horse person will tell you, riding is a reward for the many hours spent on the daily upkeep and maintenance of a horse. This program includes all aspects of horse care and management, as well as riding. It is open to all ability levels.

Faery Tales for Horses-For the month of June, Trish Wooldridge, local author and volunteer for the Bay State Equine Rescues, will be donating profits from the copies she sells of the anthology Bad-Ass Faeries 2: Just Plain Bad. Sixth Annual Gigantic Yard Sale - Saturday, July 19, from 8 am to 3 pm. We've done it before, and we'll do it again. We're just not sure the Rutland Grange Hall on Route 122A is going to be big enough! We'll have something for everyone: items for the house, yard, barn, horse, garage - all priceless treasures, all for the right price. Donations are welcome. Comedy Night - Saturday, September 20th, 8 p.m. at The Upper Deck Sports Bar and Grille in Barre, located at 377 Stetson Street. All proceeds to benefit Bay State Equine Rescue. Tickets are $10 per person, sold at the Upper Deck or online.
Comedians include- Jerry Caruso, co-founder of Comics for a Cure , celebrity impressionist, songwriter, who has also opened for Larry "the Cable Guy". Thomas Mitchell, voted "the funniest person in NH",who has numerous cable TV show appearances and heard on ROCK 101 WGIR Radio.
